Neighborhood Description

The City of Sunny Isles Beach is a barrier island located in Miami-Dade County, and lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway.  This resort community is a destination of travelers and residents alike who are looking for a chance to experience the ultimate luxury, tropical lifestyle.  Sunny Isles Beach’s population was 20,832 as of the 2010 census.

Sunny Isles Beach was first purchased in 1920 as a 2.26 square-mile plot of land and was developed by Harvey Baker Graves as a tourist resort.  Baker Graves named the resort area Sunny Isles – The Venice of America.  The barrier island first became accessible from Miami Beach in 1925, when the Haulover bridge was completed.  The 1950s and 1960s proved to be a booming time in the city, as over 30 motels and hotels popped up along Collins Avenue.  One of the first two-story motels in the U.S. was located here.

This area was so well-known for its hotels and motels, that in 1982, a half-mile long area was designated a historic site, due to the popular structures.  Until 1931, this beach city was known as North Miami Beach; it was not until 1997 that this area became known as Sunny Isles Beach.  In the early 2000s, the city began to see major redevelopment and luxury high-rise condominiums and hotels began to replace the historic one- and two-story motels and hotels along Motel Row. Sunny Isles Beach is rapidly growing, as developers are constructing high-rise condominiums and hotels.  For promotional purposes, many of these new developments are licensing names of top brands and celebrities.

Sunny Isles Beach offers residents exceptional waterfront homes and condos.  This luxury neighborhood offers residents a serene lifestyle just minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Miami Beach.  Residents are fortunate to be within close proximity to high-end dining, shopping, and entertainment destinations.

Sunny Isles Beach is known for its cultural diversity, and that can be seen from the shops located on the main thoroughfare of the city on Collins Avenue.  Sunny Isles Beach is centrally located, just minutes to the south of Bal Harbour, and Aventura just to the northwest.   Additionally, the City of Sunny Isles Beach is conveniently located near Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
